The International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), sponsored by the IEEE Signal Processing Society, held its nineteenth annual conference in Orlando, Florida, this past fall. It is the premier forum for the presentation of technological advances and research results in the fields of theoretical, experimental and applied image and video processing.
Accusoft scientists regularly attend conferences and trade shows such as this in order to keep abreast of the latest developments in image and document processing technologies, to learn what the future may hold, and to maintain important contacts with colleagues in their fields.
Accusoft scientists Stephen Martucci and Thomas Richter attended this particular ICIP. Dr. Richter presented two papers, “Performance Limitations of GPU Accelerated Image Compression Based on Classical Coding Techniques” and “A Global Image Fidelity Metric: Visual Distance and its Properties” both having to do with novel techniques for improved image compression. Dr. Martucci used his time at the conference to learn many new things about image quality assessment, image enhancement, content-aware image resizing, binarization, image and video coding, and more.
