The Buzz
Are you missing this year’s RSNA? Or are you at the conference trying to keep up with the vast amounts of information? We are here and there is a lot to see and learn. Some of the buzzwords we hear floating around Hall A are: “HTML5,” “zero-footprint” and “mobile.” We’re getting a lot of questions such as ‘how can I view DICOM images on a mobile device?’
On Sunday at RSNA the Daily Bulletin reported that a panel of informatics experts urged radiology to embrace Meaningful Use now. Radiologists are being strongly encouraged to adopt EHR and will increasingly be working and communicating with referring physicians and hospitals using EHRs. “Just because you don’t choose to participate, doesn’t mean Meaningful Use isn’t going to affect you,” said Keith Dreyer, D.O., Ph.D.
“You still have to make a decision about when and how to use EHRs, so you’re just pushing the inevitable farther and farther out.” While some radiologists ponder whether or not to implement EHR, there are monetary incentives for those that do. Practices that started early will be able to collect up to $44,000 per physician over the five years of the incentive program, though that number will drop to $39,000 for practices that start next year and decrease steadily thereafter.
This year at RSNA we are demoing and talking about Prizm Content Connect v6 for the first time, in addition to showcasing our image compression enhancements and mobile apps. Prizm Content Connect is our HTML5 zero-footprint document viewer that supports over 300 document types.
