IEEE International Conference on Image Processing

Icip -200The International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), sponsored by the IEEE Signal Processing Society, held its nineteenth annual conference in Orlando, Florida, this past fall.  It is the premier forum for the presentation of technological advances and research results in the fields of theoretical, experimental and applied image and video processing.

Accusoft scientists regularly attend conferences and trade shows such as this in order to keep abreast of the latest developments in image and document processing technologies, to learn what the future may hold, and to maintain important contacts with colleagues in their fields.

Accusoft scientists Stephen Martucci and Thomas Richter attended this particular ICIP. Dr. Richter presented two papers, “Performance Limitations of GPU Accelerated Image Compression Based on Classical Coding Techniques” and “A Global Image Fidelity Metric: Visual Distance and its Properties” both having to do with novel techniques for improved image compression. Dr. Martucci used his time at the conference to learn many new things about image quality assessment, image enhancement, content-aware image resizing, binarization, image and video coding, and more.

"I like how Accusoft recognizes the value of being at the cutting edge of scientific advancements in image and document processing and sends members of our technical staff to conferences, workshops, and seminars to present papers and to learn about the latest and greatest methods and theory,” said Dr. Martucci. “I enjoyed attending this ICIP and I learned a lot that I will now pass on to my co-workers so that we can continue to be sure our products incorporate the latest technology and are the best in the industry."

A Look Back at PMA@CES 2013

PMA_CESIt was another great year at PMA@CES in the LVH (formerly Las Vegas Hilton). The number of products being showcased at CES is amazing. There were over 20,000 new products unveiled at the 2013 CES including our ThinPic app, which helps users to store 3x the hi-res photos on their iOS device. Mobile was again one of the hottest topics at the show.

“Overall, the future is wrapped around mobile with Android sub-planting the iPhone platform in the near future,” said Al Jackson, Senior Global Business Development Manager at Accusoft.  “In addition to the massive interest for new mobile apps, attendees were very interested in solutions for better image compression.”

“The proliferation of image data and increased sharing of content inherent to Enterprise 2.0 is increasing the need for efficient methods of compression and decompression of images,” said Brandon Mount, Manager, Sales Engineering at Accusoft. “One of our core strengths is high-speed compression technology and this creates a lot of great opportunities for us at a show like CES,” said Jackson.
