Netflix plans to dump Silverlight for HTML5 streaming - CNET
By Steven Musil

Due to eroding support for browser plug-ins, Netflix is making plans to move its streaming service from Silverlight over to the emerging HTML5 video format. The movie-streaming service has used the Microsoft plug-in to deliver streaming content to Windows and Mac OS X computers since 2008. But after Microsoft announced last month that it would end support of the browser versions of the plug-in by 2021, it became clear Netflix needs to start focusing on a replacement.

While the solution may present into through Google's efforts to make Netflix available on the ARM-based Samsung Chromebook, the movie service has already been working on long-term solutions. Anthony Park, Netflix's director of engineering, and Mark Watson, Netflix's director of streaming standards, today reiterated the disadvantages of plug-ins and the efforts to move beyond plug-ins altogether.

By Reuven Cohen

If you’ve attended a technology conference over the last couple years it’s hard to avoid the obvious buzz around cloud computing. Almost every vendor has applied the term to anything and everything imaginable. We’re now at a point where most “new software” created, is created with the Internet as a central tenant.  It’s how modern software is developed, deployed and consumed.  Yes. The cloud has gone mainstream.

New research sponsored by enterprise focused cloud computing firm,Virtustream, sheds new light on the adoption of cloud computing. The report findings indicate that the majority of U.S. businesses are now using some form of cloud computing for IT. The report notes that increasingly most of these businesses use multiple cloud providers leading to potential problems with interoperability and, so called, “Cloud Sprawl.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation's agents have finally made the leap into the future, upgrading from paper files to a digital case management system at a cost of more than $600 million.
