EFF blasts proposed DRM features in HTML5 - Network World
By Jon Gold

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has issued an angry formal response to a proposed set of HTML5 standards from the World Wide Web Consortium, saying that stringent digital rights management technology will be harmful to online freedom and prevent many users from getting access to important content.

The EFF is most concerned about the W3C HTML working group's acceptance of a draft standard that "includes discussion" of a technology called encrypted media extensions. Essentially, says EFF international director Danny O'Brien, this builds DRM into the fabric of what was supposed to be the underpinning for the open Web.

Google starts using HTML5 and WebM for premium content - Gigaom
By Janko Roettgers

Google has quietly started to switch some aspects of its premium content offerings to its open source WebM video format. Google’s WebM product manager John Luther explained during a developer Hangout Wednesday that YouTube and Google Play video rentals are now using WebM as opposed to Flash on Samsung’s Chromebooks. “We will be rolling that out on more Chrome OS devices and other platforms soon,” he added.
Luther went on to explain that Google did a lot of work on the security layer that delivers the videos encrypted to an HTML5 player. “As far as I know, we are the first to ever do that,” he said.

It’s been five years since the announcement of HTML5 and yet the HTML5 vs. Flash debate continues to rage on among developers. Checkout the HTML5 vs Flash [Infographic].

Mobile Technology and the Radiology Practice: Implementation Strategy - ImagingBiz
By Cat Vasko

The use of mobile technologies holds a great deal of potential for radiology practices, Degati says. “Radiologists are enabled to make decisions in a more timely way than ever before: They do not have to be tied to desks or workstations, and they have the flexibility to work whenever and wherever they want, instead of being restricted to traditional hours of operation,” said Joe Degati, CTO for Medical Management Professionals (MMP). He adds, however, that an implementation strategy is necessary not only to make the best use of capital, but to avoid running afoul of privacy regulations.

Now mobile apps can facilitate rapid collaboration among physicians and the viewing of Electronic Health Records (EHR) by patients. To meet the demands of tomorrow's medical applications try out the AIMTools SDK.

How the Cloud is Impacting SharePoint 2013 - CMSWire
By Christian Buckley

The cloud is the evolution of software and collaboration — it’s something companies need to be thinking about, or they will get left behind. Within Microsoft's ecosystem, what is driving much of this dramatic shift toward the cloud is Microsoft itself, rather than their customer base. With competitors like Google driving a new breed of products and services geared toward the cloud and away from the traditional operating system model, Microsoft has scrambled in the past few years to outline their own cloud strategy — whether or not their vast customer base is ready for it.

One of the most cost-effective ways to drive productivity improvement initiatives is to increase collaboration across the enterprise, both internally among employees as well as between employees, partners, and customers, through the use of a standardized set of tools. For more information, download the whitepaper The Role of Collaboration Tools for SharePoint.

Generations: Embracing Technology and Engaging Each Other - HIMSS
By Jon Mertz, Member, HIMSS Social Media Task Force
.
At any given time, there is a span of six generations in our society.  Change seems to accelerate with each passing generation. Although many innovations in healthcare have occurred over the current six generations, the basics remain. They involve office visits and silos of paper.
This is changing, too, as electronic health records (EHRs) are increasingly being used and combined with many, many more apps for personal care that track steps, weight, calories, sugar levels, etc., and the list grows extensively from here.

All of this is positive, yet adoption and use is lagging. There are many conversations about engaged patients or e-patients, and more mainstream articles now appear about patients embracing technology to better manage their health.

6 CIOs Share Their Strategic Visions for 2013 - CIO
By John Brandon

Having a strategic vision in place is critical for success. Without a roadmap, IT can become too caught up in technology trends. For the six CIOs interviewed here, having a renewed focus on a core strategy for 2013 means directing the entire staff along a predetermined route—disaster recovery in the cloud, social networking, device independence and more. This, in turn, will drive business decisions, identify key priorities for their IT departments and demonstrate to end users a commitment to better usability.

Read these six CIO strategies for 2013 and see how they compare to your organization's plans for the rest of the year.

Beware: 7 Sins of Cloud Computing - Wired

The designs will be featured on all carry-out bags and fountain beverage cups, communicating "brand stories" and delivering facts with a mix of text and illustrations.
